Here are some pictures of my living room. When people come over they are usually shocked to see a college students living room that is actually pulled together and nice. They usually think that my roommate and I had some kind of endless budget, but literally everything is second-hand. The only "new" thing in the living room was a rug from Pier 1. We got the couches from a garage sale, the end tables are hand-me-downs from my grandparents house (the lamps too, they were a wedding present to my grandparents in 1949, they're hand painted and so cute!). Most of the deco items are just random things that I have collected from garage sales, my grandparents house, or given as gifts.
When I was decorating my apartment I really wanted a marble top coffee table, I quickly found out it wouldn't be possible on a tight college student's budget. So I made one myself! I found 2 glass top end tables on craigslist put them together and bought a piece of MDF from Home Depot. I found some basic instructions online for faux painting and I just played around with different techniques until I was happy with the finish. It's funny because I always forget about the fact that I painted it and when people come over and see it they are usually confused, they think it's stone but when they look closer they're not sure what it is. The great thing about the coffee table is that it's 3 separate pieces so I can easily change the look of the bottom half when I'm sick of the small "iron" tables that I have now. This picture has nothing to do with my living room, I just love tea cups. I found these (a set of 4) at a garage sale when I was visiting my sister in the east bay. I know they're not too old, they're probably from the 60s or 70s, but I love how girly they are! I feel so dainty when I drink tea out of them. My boyfriend, on the other hand, doesn't think it's as cute when I give him tea in these cute cups...
